This pouch is so simple to make and looks really great. You can make it in whatever size you like, even adding straps to turn it into a bag 🙂
What you’ll need
Fabric, lining fabric, facing and a magnet clasp.
Decided how big you want the pouch to be a cut a piece of the main fabric, adding half an inch all round for the seams. Then cut another piece the same width but about 50% longer as pictured. Round off the corners (only the two lower ones on the smaller piece). Cut the same pieces from lining fabric and facing.
I used iron on facing, applying it to the outer fabric but you can use other facing too. With the smaller pouch pieces, place the lining and outer fabric right sides together and then the facing on top if it’s not ironed on. Sew along the straight edge.
Open out the piece you’ve just sewn and then fold so wrong sides are together. Press the seam with an iron to make it neat.
Now you need to mark where you want the magnet to go. Cut two small slits and slot the pokey bits through the fabric.
Place the back on the magnet and then bend the pokey bits inwards so they’re flat against the magnet.
Now place the large outer fabric right side up, then on top place the bit with the magnet on right side down, then on top of that, place the lining fabric right side down.
Sew around the edge, leaving a gap where I’ve marked with pencil.
Cut notches around the corners.
Turn right side out and iron. Leave the gap open!
Now you can work out where the other part of the magnet clasp needs to go. Make sure to only cut through the lining fabric when you attach it, so the back is inside the flap.
Now sew up the little gap at the side and you’re done 🙂
This pouch is adorable!!! love it ♥
Love this little tutorial – I sew a LOT, and you’d have thought a pouch like this would be something I could figure out, but sometimes my brain doesn’t function to allow me to think things through! Let’s blame the sun, age, ete shall we?? So, thank you very much for this tutorial – my husband;s remote control will have a padded pouch with a magnetic clasp, made from a pair of his old jeans, by tea-time tonight!
